Three tips to make your presence felt when presenting online

The most common challenge I hear from presenters is: ‘I can’t feel the energy from my audience’.

Well, often, the audience can’t feel the energy from you either. As the presenter, it’s your job to keep things flowing with enthusiasm and connection.

Here are three top tips to make your presence felt when you're presenting online:

Stand!

This will increase your energy levels and tell your brain ‘we’re on show’, so you’re more likely to add energy to your ‘performance’. So, the rule is: if you would stand in person, stand when you’re online!

Keep the camera at eye level.

Looking directly into the camera allows for the best possible connection with your audience. Bear in mind that they’re right up close to your face, even if they’re far away. (The Zoom ‘touch up my appearance button’ is handy here!)

Engage directly at least every 10 minutes

Aside from keeping your audience connected with your talk, this gives you immediate feedback on their level of interest. Use all the tools at your disposal:

*Polls

*Annotation

*Mentimetre

*Comments

Using all these tools means you may feel even more connected to your audience than if you were in person….I mean, when else does everyone in the audience have a front-row seat!
